Tandem, or a bike which two cyclists ride and pedal together. There are more or less two kinds of people who ride tandems: those who have completely fallen under the spell of tandem pedalling and have become aficionados and fans, and those for who it is the only means of movement and active sport as a result of their disability. In the second case a blind or otherwise disabled rider sits behind the front rider.
Building a tandem requires a highly individual approach, especially in its geometry and design. It is necessary to combine two frame sizes so that the result suits both riders.Thanks to its custom production and mainly to its extensive experience of many years with tandems, Duratec, can fine tune and design the frame geometry and then manufacture the frame and naturally also assemble the complete tandem.
Big Bang D9 is an adventure tandem intended for cycle tourism or expeditions for two. It is very often an aid for parents with a disabled child. And we most often seek out compromises in adventure tandems, because we often have to deal with differing bodies, including differences in dimensions. For example. Parent as front rider and at the back a smaller child. Or the front rider is a woman who has a taller blind husband. We have always been able to come up with a solution thanks to our own production, which permits technical alterations. In terms of design the frame is made of 7020T6 aluminium alloy and large diameter tubes with high rigidity, which is a decisive parameter influencing rideability and controllability. As standard the frame comes with a fitting for attaching a rear carrier, lights and mudguards. And these details are a practical aid on long journeys.
One of the favourite variants for the more demanding client is the use of a BELT TRANSMISSION instead of chain in combination with a rear multispeed Rohloff hub. We react to customer requirements, and you can find all the possibilities below in the details or on the configuration page.

Front trekking tandem fork Duratec. Mount for disc brakes with preparation for the fender or the preparation for fender and rack. Forks has an aluminum body with aluminum pillar 1-1/8 "- 1-1/2".
Very difficult thing are the crancs for tandems. We very often use the cranks GEBHARDT. It is customized work. It means the customer can choose the lenght of cranks, right transmision and the other requests like colour. First transfer 1:1 is 36-36, second transfer 48-36-26. The axle ISIS or square. The parts used for construction and manufacturing of frames including rear dropouts of the frame, derailleur hangers, chain grip, in-line cable adjusters and others are made in CNC milling centre. The advantage of this kind of machining is reaching a high precision of machined parts. This technology guarantees a high quality of the surface of machined parts, very clean cutting and a very neat “high-tech” design. Rear derrailleur hanger is exchangeable. Rear left dropout is for Intl Standard. The second brake for stalker is available too as V-brake.

Geometry trekking bikes (tandems) is widely adapted driving style to which they are intended. The frames have a longer head tube. They are generally higher and more comfortable for ride. In this type of tandem encourage you to consider suspension forks, best lock from the handlebar.
Frame Big Bang D9 is normally produced by the rotor diameter 160 and 180 mm. If the weight of both riders higher recommended to increase the braking effect to ask for extra performance and fitted with a rotor diameter of 203 mm or add additional rear brake operated by the passenger (V-brake).
